Matthew Lloyd-Winder
Matthew has been working in Stained Glass since the early 1980's and as an artist he finds working in glass very rewarding. Stained glass windows have been made for many centuries and Matthew has made windows for churches, traditional buildings, homes and offices. Windows can be made from new in the style, colour and design of your choosing.
He can also restore traditional windows using traditional styles and colours to restore them to their original state. Using glass is like painting with light and can transform any room or building. It is also a very old art form that has adapted well to contemporary uses of glass in our environment. Stained glass windows can include many different techniques during the making from etching glass, to fusing glass, painting on glass and leading together to make a traditional leaded panel.
Matthew is also a skilled painter on glass. This was a skill often used in Victorian stained glass windows where they especially like to include birds and flowers in their windows. This skill was also used by the earliest stained glass artists, who made windows that told stories, in churches. When restoring church windows great painting skills are needed. Each face has to be individually painted and fired many times to create the feeling of a three dimensional face.
